About College
Noorul Islam College of Arts & Science obtained affiliation from Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Tirunelveli and the college was started in the year 2001. It is an offspring of Noorul Islam Educational Trust. The Noorul Islam Trust is reputed for its commitment to the cause of higher education. Janab. Dr. A.P. Majeed Khan, the well-known philanthropist, is the Founder Chairman of the Trust. The Trust has to its credit two popular technical institutions, namely, the The Noorul Islam University at Kumaracoil, The Noorul Islam Polytechnic at Punkarai and one Community College – The Noorul Islam Community College at Kumaracoil.
The college had a humble beginning. It was started with only three Bachelor Degree courses – Computer Science, Computer Applications and Information Technology. In the year 2002 two more courses were added, namely, B.Sc Bio-Technology and B.Com. The year 2003 saw two more covetable and prestigious additions, namely, B.Sc Bio Informatics and B.Sc Micro Biology. The year 2006 was a memorable year because affiliation for three more prestigious courses was granted by our university. The new courses are M.Sc. Biotechnology, B.Sc. Visual Communication and B.Sc. Biochemistry. During the year 2007 the college has got affiliation for M.Sc. Bio Informatics. The first set of graduates passed out of the college with flying colors at the end of the academic year 2003-04. During the year 2008 -09 manonmanium sundaranar university gave permission to the college to run 3 satellite courses . M.sc computer science, M.A English with computer application, B.A English with computer application. Again during the year 2009 - 10 the manonmanium sundaranar university granted affliation to start BBA and BCOM with computer application During the year 2009-10 affliation for startinh M.Phil in Biotechnology, Bioinformatics and two PG courses with M.Sc Applied Microbiology and M.Com were granted by the manonmanium sundaranar university.
The college has excellent laboratory facilities for all the branches of study, spacious lecture halls, and each department has well-qualified, talented, motivating and experienced teachers.
The college is situated in the serene and picturesque slope of the Velimalai Hills in the Western Ghat near the historically reputed, and once the capital of Travancore Kingdom, Padmababhapuram Palace. It is about 55 kms. away from Thiruvananthapuram and 14 kms from Nagercoil. The college campus is spread over an area of more than 15 acres of greenery.
